Back to School Child Spree

Soroptimist of Hanford makes an impact in the lives of approximately 220 homes annually and contributes to making this a better community to live in. Since 1989 we have supplied clothing to children that are in need throughout our county. Each year we have grown in the number of children reached as well as the dollar amount allocated to each child’s clothing allowance.

Annually, the Knights of Columbus arrive at 5:00 am to prepare breakfast for the students and their chaperones. Recently we have collaborated and have added other services to include: Kings County Office of Education, FAST Credit Union, Health Net Cal Viva, Adventist Health Central California Network, United Way, Fresno Food Bank, St. Vincent DePaul, Head Start, and Kings Community Action Organization to name a few. While the students are shopping at JC Penney their parent, mostly their Mothers’, undergo a medical screening that includes a blood glucose and blood pressure reading. If further treatment is needed referrals are made.

This is our signature event and one of our largest hands on projects. We hope to make an impact on the lives of the children served; an education is the most powerful asset to their success.
